Colon Hydrotherapy FAQ

Thinking about your first colonic? Here are straightforward answers to the questions Brandy hears most. If yours isn’t here, call (317) 690-0536. She’s happy to talk it through.

What is colon hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy (also called a colonic or colon irrigation) gently rinses the colon with warm, filtered water. At our Carmel office, Brandy uses the Angel of Water open system. You recline comfortably while a slow, gravity-fed flow of water (about 1.0 PSI) fills and empties the colon several times during the session.

How is a colonic different from an enema?

An enema uses a small amount of fluid and reaches only the rectum and lower colon. A colonic uses a slow, continuous flow of water over a longer session and is designed to rinse the full length of the colon.

Does it hurt?

Most people find it relaxing. Some feel mild cramping or fullness as the colon releases, which usually passes quickly. Many clients say they leave feeling refreshed.

Is it sanitary and private?

Yes. Every client gets a new, single-use, sterile rectal nozzle, which you insert yourself. The Angel of Water system uses a triple-filtered water supply and a multi-stage sanitation protocol between clients. Brandy is available to you throughout your session and respects your privacy.

How should I prepare?

  • Don’t eat for about two hours before your appointment.
  • New clients: print and fill out the Personal History Form and bring it along.
  • Drink plenty of water the day before and after your session.

What happens at my first visit?

Your first visit begins with a digestive system and nutritional consultation. Brandy goes over your history form, explains how the digestive system and the equipment work, and answers your questions. Then you have your first colonic. Most new clients choose the New Client Package, which includes the consultation, two colonics (ideally 48 hours apart) and a 5-day supply of Healthy Trinity probiotics.

How long does it take?

Appointments are 1, 1½ or 2 hours. Plan a little extra time for your first visit because it includes the consultation.

Can I go back to work afterward?

Yes. Most people go right back to work or the rest of their day. Some feel a little tired afterward, so you may want to plan an easy evening.

Can I have a colonic during my period?

Yes, if you’re comfortable. Some women prefer to wait until their period is over. It’s a personal choice.

How often should I have a colonic?

There is no single schedule that’s right for everyone. Many new clients start with two sessions about 48 hours apart; after that, it depends on your goals and how you feel. Brandy will talk it through with you.

Will a colonic help me lose weight?

A colonic isn’t a weight-loss treatment. Any change on the scale right afterward is mostly water and waste. Many clients pair colonics with changes to how they eat, which is where living foods counseling can help.

Is colon hydrotherapy safe?

For most healthy adults, a colonic with a trained practitioner and modern equipment is well tolerated. Side effects are usually mild and short-lived, such as cramping, bloating or feeling tired. Serious complications are rare but possible, which is why screening matters. Research on health benefits is limited, and colon hydrotherapy is not a treatment for any disease.

Who should not have colon hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy isn’t right for everyone. Please talk with your doctor first, and tell Brandy before booking, if any of these apply to you:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Kidney (renal) insufficiency
  • Cirrhosis
  • Intestinal perforation
  • Cancer of the rectum
  • Fissures or fistulas
  • Severe hemorrhoids with ongoing bleeding
  • Abdominal hernia
  • Recent colon, rectal or abdominal surgery
  • Pregnancy (first or last trimester)
  • Any other serious heart, kidney or digestive condition

Colon hydrotherapy is a wellness service and is not a substitute for medical care. It is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any disease.

Is it covered by insurance?

Colon hydrotherapy usually isn’t covered by health insurance. See our current prices and packages. Buying a package in advance saves up to 20%.
